Introduction
Ophthalmology is a division of medical science that focuses on the eye. In this branch of medicine a certified/licensed specialist has studied the anatomical functions of the eye including diseases and possible treatments. Some treatments may include surgical procedures, therefore the ophthalmologist is also required to be a surgeon. Medical eye science includes subdivisions of the study of the eye. According to the AAO or American Academy of Ophthalmology these sub-specialties are: Cornea and External Disease, Neuro-Ophthalmology,Ophthalmic Pathology,Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery,Pediatric Ophthalmology, and Vitreoretinal Diseases.
